Connecticut DEP Investigating Fatal Boating Accident on Candlewood Lake, New Milford/Brookfield
The Connecticut Department of Environmental Protection (EnCon) Police are continuing to investigate a fatal two boat collision that occurred at approximately 1:15 a.m. on Saturday, July 19, 2008 on the east side of Candlewood Lake in a section near the Brookfield town line.
The two vessels involved in the collision were a 24 foot inboard/outboard, Formula and an 18 foot Triton.
Formula
It is not clear at this time which person aboard the Formula was the operator. Killed in the accident was a 32 year old male from New Milford, who was found dead on-board when the boat was towed in and a 27 year old male from West Redding whose body was found in 45 feet of water a few hours later by a Dive Team. A third occupant was injured and admitted to Danbury Hospital.
Triton
The operator of the Triton was a 60 year old male from Mahopac, New York, who was injured and taken to a nearby hospital. A 35 year old male passenger from Cortlandt-Manor, New York had minor injuries.
Following the accident both vessels were transported to a secure DEP facility. The DEP's Boating Accident Reconstruction Unit will perform a detailed inspection of the vessels to assist with the investigation.
Assisting DEP EnCon Police Officers were Brookfield Police and Fire Departments, New Milford Police and Fire Departments, New Milford Police Department Dive Team and Newtown Dive and Rescue.
