Boating Accident Fatality at Chickasaw National Recreation Area   

On Saturday, May 17, 2008, Marlon Omar Hernandez of Moore, OK was killed in a boat collision on the Lake of the Arbuckles within Chickasaw National Recreation Area. While operating a Personal Watercraft near the Buckhorn Pavilion Picnic area, Hernandez was struck by a passing power boat. Bystanders removed Hernandez, age 20, from the water and began performing CPR until relieved by emergency responders. Hernandez was transported to Arbuckle Memorial Hospital in Sulphur, OK where he died of injuries sustained in the collision.

The incident is under joint investigation by the National Park Service and the Federal Bureau of Investigation.

Safety message to the boating public, drinking alcohol and boating do not mix.
